Physical Therapy
Pediatric physical therapy focuses on the evaluation and treatment of children with health problems resulting from injury, disease, or congenital conditions, with emphasis on movement dysfunction, sensory motor issues and psychosocial needs.
The PT assist children in regaining vital mobility skills after surgery or injury, preventing deconditioning through monitored exercise, teach use of assistive devices such as walkers and wheelchairs, assess developmental needs of children starting birth, assist children who have chronic disabilities become more functionally independent. Pediatric physical therapists also focus to help children by assisting them with developing skills that are necessary to be functional and safe in their environment. Pediatric physical therapists also address posture and muscle control, balance and equilibrium skills, walking skills, muscular strength and endurance, range of joint motion and joint flexibility, coordination skills (eye/hand coordination), and developmental delays.
